Xiaomi Redmi Note 15 Pro+ Hyper OS 3
This is Xiaomi's Redmi Note 15 Pro Plus, the most expensive model in this year's Redmi Note series. So, what's the top Redmi all about and is it worth the cash? I'm will go for Lean and Know and let's find out in our Redmi Note 15 Pro Plus review. Out of the Redmi Note 15 series, the Pro Plus is the model to choose for the premium build, the fastest charging, and advanced passive cooling. And compared to the previous Pro Plus model, this one brings upgrades like a larger display,
chipset
better ingress protection, a more powerful chipset, and a bigger battery. Just a note that while there is a Chinese version of the Note 15 Pro Plus with different specs, we're reviewing the global version here. This design is quite nice, the Pro Plus looks and feels like a much more expensive phone. You have a back made of vegan leather or fiber reinforced plastic depending on the colorway. And there's an aluminum frame which is flat this time around instead of curved. Like the previous
display
model, Xiaomi claims that the phone is extra durable when it comes to drop resistance and the ingress protection has been improved. It's now IP68/IP69K against dust, water submersion, and pressurized hot water jets. The Note 15 Pro Plus has a curved OLED display and it's larger now at 6.83 in. It again has a 120 Hz refresh rate and Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection. The quality of this display is great. You have plenty of sharpness and contrast, and the bezels are nice and thin. Not to mention,
refresh rate
there's 12-bit color depth and support for HDR10 Plus and Dolby Vision video playback, too. The refresh rate behavior is pretty straightforward. You get 120 Hz when swiping around on the interface to make things look smoother, and this switches to 60 Hz when you stop interacting with the phone to save energy. There's plenty of brightness here for good legibility outdoors. We measured over 1500 nits maximum in automatic brightness mode in our standard testing. [music] And when measuring a smaller patch of
nits
the screen, the brightness is even higher, nearly 3,200 nits. For audio, the Pro Plus has a pair of stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos support. These are actually really loud, earning a score of excellent on the loudness charts. The bass is impressive, too, though it may sometimes overpower the mids and highs. You can listen for yourself through a comparison tool linked below. For biometric input, the Note 15 Pro Plus uses an optical underd display fingerprint reader. It could stand to be placed further up on the device, but it
storage
works reliably. The phone comes with 256 or 512 gigs of storage on board, and that's not expandable through micro SD. [music] And like other Xiaomi phones, the Note 15 Pro Plus has an IR blaster, which you can use to control appliances with. While more premium Xiaomi phones we reviewed recently came with the latest user interface out of the box, that's not the case with the Redmi's. At the time of review, the Redmi Note 15 Pro Plus is running Xiaomi's Hyper OS 2 on top of Android 15. It's honestly not
that different from the newest version, and an update to Hyper OS 3 should come in the near future. In general, on this mid-range device, you don't get the suite of AI based features that you do on the higherend Xiaomi phones, but at least you still have AI editing tools within the gallery. We actually have an in-depth video about Xiaomi's Hyper OS 2 if you'd like to learn more about it. And for support, Xiaomi promises 4 years of security patches and three major OS updates. However, one of those updates
will be used up to get this Redmi up to the current Android 16. The chipset of the Redmi Note 15 Pro Plus is a Snapdragon 7S Gen 4. It's the next generation of the chipset we saw within the previous Pro Plus model. As a result, the performance is a bit of an improvement, but is still in the same ballpark. This is a solid showing for a mid-ranger, and the phone feels responsive. Just keep in mind that there are other phones in this price range, so-called flagship killers, that pack a lot more power under the hood.
The thermal management of the Redmi Note 15 Pro Plus is excellent thanks to the passive cooling system and the less demanding chipset. This global version of the phone has a 6,500 mAh battery. That's a major upgrade over what we saw in the previous model. The battery life here is a significant improvement over the previous generation with the Note 15 Pro Plus earning an active use score of over 15 hours in our tests. Xiaomi has equipped this phone with 100 watt charging, not as fast as the 120
watts of the 14 Pro Plus. Because of that, and with the increased battery capacity, the new model charges considerably slower. However, it's still competitive, able to go from zero to full in 48 minutes with a proprietary charger and in about an hour with a USB power delivery charger. And now the cameras. Xiaomi has dropped the macro cam this time around, but like the previous model, you get a 200 megapixel main cam and an 8 megap ultrawide. Overall, the Redmi Note 15 Pro Plus brings some small tune-ups in the camera
department, and we appreciate it. The new main camera sensor has better rendition of fine detail and takes better people shots. [music] For some odd reason, however, we found its output at two times zoom, a bit worse than the previous model. It doesn't show any improvement at fourx zoom either. So, we wonder what the four times toggle is still doing in the camera viewfinder. With this release, the ultrawide camera produces slightly sharper images in both good and low light, but there's no getting around the fact
that it remains entry-level hardware. The selfie cam has seen a bump in resolution, but unfortunately that doesn't mean it takes any better selfies. We like how the skin tones come through, but we're starting to wonder if the fact that faces come out slightly out of focus is intentional. The Redmi Note 15 Pro Plus's main camera captures nice videos in good light, and video stabilization remains commendable as before. [music] After dark, however, we prefer the low light video output of its predecessor.
As for the ultra widecam, the new sensor produces a sharper rendition than before in both good and low light. But this 1080p video output is still nothing to write home about. So, there you have it. Xiaomi's Rebi Note 15 Pro Plus. It's a solid mid-ranger with good battery life and an excellent display. The charging is pretty fast and you get improved drop and water resistance. However, the phone is not all that cheap at launch. That means it sits in the same price category as phones with more powerful chipsets or
better cameras. However, once it price does cool down a bit, the Redmi Note 15 Pro Plus should be a lot more competitive. Thanks for watching, guys. One high-powered alternative from Xiaomi itself is the Poco F7 Ultra, and another option is the OnePlus Nord 5. Let us know what you think down below, and I'll see you on the next one.
